Dlomo motivates athletes at athletics course

ATHLETICS - SENATOR Mpheni Dlomo has called upon athletes to bring medals from the forthcoming Olympics Games to be held in Beijing, China in 2008.
Dlomo made the plea yesterday during the official opening of the African Athletics workshop held at Olympafrica Sports Development Centre at Lobamba.

“My dream is to see athletics raising the country’s flag high in the forthcoming Olympics. At least one medal can do for the country and I’m sure that the athletes will make my dream come true,” he said.

Dlomo also said it was very encouraging to see so many young people joining athletics as it is also good for the organisation.

“The sport is going to develop very quickly in the country, especially if it can get the support from all stakeholders. It is very wise to see young people in the sport as it shows that it will develop from the grass roots level,” he explained.

The Athletics Association of Swaziland (AAS) President Basil Howe thanked all the athletes who attended the workshop. He promised them that they would gain a lot from the course.

He also expressed gratitude to the Olympic Solidarity and the Swaziland National Sports Council (SNSC) and Swaziland Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (SOCGA) Strategic Alliance for sponsoring the workshop. The workshop is affiliated by Eien Bedeers and Eward Ndlangamandla from South Africa and Swaziland respectively.
