Leonard Chuene, South Africa?s top track official, has apologized for denying knowledge of gender tests done on the runner Caster Semenya, saying that he lied to protect her privacy. Chuene, the president of Athletics South Africa, said that Semenya was tested in Pretoria on Aug. 7, before the world championships. He called his denials an ?error of judgment.? Chuene said, ?I believed at the time my consistent denials would help protect her.?.
