Nicolas Macrozonaris was on the track for three races today in Ottawa, taking up one of the open lanes at the Ontario track and field championships.
He ran wind-assisted times of 10.27, 10.25 and a wind legal 10.34 to win the 100m final.
This was only the second outing of the season for Macrozonaris, who has been nursing a leg injury since January. In his first races two weeks ago in Sherbrooke, he ran times of 10.49 and 10.51.
Similar to Sherbrooke he got out to great starts and good leads today only to see his competitors close the gap by race end. Unlike Sherbrooke however he did not lose his lead and the race on this day- a good sign that his conditioning is improving.
That the times run so far this summer are not close to the best performances of his career is a secondary issue at this point; the priority is a return to full health.
Macrozonaris will continue to run locally for the time being, scheduled to run a couple races in the coming week including Halifax on the 9th.
