Double world champion Rashid Ramzi has decided to only run the 1500m at the Beijing Olympics.

Ramzi won gold in both the 800m and 1500m in Helsinki back in 2005 and won a silver in the 1500m in Osaka last year despite battling a foot injury.

However, his coach Khalid Boulami has said that he will just focus in the longer event this season.

“He is more determined than ever especially after last year. He is only planning for the gold in the Olympics. Nothing else,” Boulami added.

Ramzi was recently fifth at World Indoor Championships in Valencia in his first and only indoor competition of the season.

He is planning training camps in Albuquerque, USA and Morocco before taking part in the European meetings in summer.

do you know how he went in the 800m at Osaka?

Rashid Ramzi went 1:47.76 for 8th and last in heat 2 of the semi-finals.

Canada’s Gary Reed 1:44.92 won their heat and went on to win silver in the final (in 1:47.10, behind Kenyan Alfred Kirwa Yego 1:47.09!). Olympic titleholder Borzakovskiy was third in 1:47.39. That’s the slowest 800 at this level I can remember.
