Powell, Simpson for Penn

Jamaica calls up its two ‘big-guns’ for Penn
Thursday 19 April 2007
Kingston, Jamaica - Asafa Powell, World 100m record holder, and Sherone Simpson, the fastest woman in the world at 100m and 200m last season, will represent Jamaica at the 113th edition of the Penn Relays (26-27-28 April 2007) in Philadelphia, USA.

Powell, who pulled out of last week’s Mount San Antonio College Relays in California because of cold weather, is scheduled to compete in the 4x100m Relay on Saturday 28 April at the renowned “USA vs. the World” meet at Franklin Field. World Championships silver medallist Michael Frater, Lerone Clarke and Dwight Thomas will round out the men’s team.

Simpson will run one of two 200m legs on the female sprint medley team for Jamaica. Nadine Palmer will run the other 200-meter leg, World Indoor silver medallist Kenia Sinclair will take the 800m leg, while Novlene Williams is slotted for the 400m.

The Jamaican men’s 4x400m team is made up of Germaine Gonzales, Sanjay Ayre, Leeford Green and Michael Blackwood, while Shericka Williams heads the women’s 4x400m team of Ronetta Smith, Nadia Davy and Michelle Burger.

The women’s sprint quartet is Brigitte Foster-Hylton, Palmer, Aleen Bailey and Peta-Gaye Dowdie.

Don’t count on Powell running there. If he didn’t like the cold weather in Mt Sac, he’s not likely to want to risk anything at Penn!
