Bekele bids for Birmingham record
(Bekele holds the indoor and outdoor 10,000m world records)
Kenenisa Bekele will bid to break the two-mile indoor world record at Saturday’s Norwich Union Grand Prix.
The Ethiopian is targeting compatriot Haile Gebrselassie’s time of eight minutes 4.69 seconds, set on the same track in Birmingham three years ago.
Russia’s Yelena Isinbayeva is eyeing a world record and the £17,000 bonus that comes with it in the pole vault.
And Kelly Sotherton and Jade Johnson meet in the long jump, a week after their row at the AAA Championships.
Johnson, who made her return from injury in Sheffield, clashed with Olympic heptathlon bronze medallist Sotherton, who she later claimed “lacks respect”.
The duo will face stiff competition from former world champion Eunice Barber, with the Frenchwoman making her first appearance on British soil.
Barber’s compatriot Christine Arron  will also make a rare start in the UK in the 60m, while the Olympic champion Veronica Campbell lines up in the 200m.
In the men’s programme British interest will centre on Jason Gardener, who continues his preparations for the Commonwealth Games in the 60m.
Fellow Briton Harry Aikines Ayreety also starts in a bid to seal a place at the World Indoor Championships.
Elsewhere Robert Tobin and fit-again Daniel Caines lock horns in the 400m.
