My Thoughts on the WC's

I didn’t really get to watch the WC’s because of when they are shown on TV here, but today’s show showed the sprint finals replayed and then the relays (I missed the 4x1). I have some thoughts I want to share…

  1. Kelli White is out-of-this-world. I’ve never seen anyone, male or female, get out in a 200m like that. She ate up 7 and 8 like they weren’t even there. My jaw dropped during that race. I have to congratulate her on her double.

  2. Torri Edwards is definitely someone to look out for. I think the emergence of people like Angela Williams and even Allyson Felix is going to be halted for awhile if Torri keeps running the way she does. I almost thought she was going to win the 100m she got out so fast, but Kelli just had that extra umph to get past her. Watch, I bet Torri beats Marion a couple of times next year. She’s on fire.

  3. What the hell happened to the American men? We sucked this year, I’m sorry. Mo and Tim now have absolutely no bragging rights not being able to make finals and claiming each is faster than the other. Tim may have the WR now, but I give it about 5 years before it’s broken again…about the same time Mo had. Our 200m men came through and so did the 400 and 4x4, but overall, we should have done much better and run faster even in victories. 20.30? 44.5 (I think)? C’mon, we’re better than that.

  4. Tyree disappointed. I’m glad the gold is still the US’s, but the 400m was Tyree’s to lose and he did. He probably should’ve saved some from the US Championships running as fast as he did. But I still give mad props to Jerome. Good Job!

  5. Ana - Damn! She blew away the women’s 400m. That wasn’t even fair. Almost .5 seconds difference b/t her and 2nd place. Now that was her race to lose and she came through. I think we have another Olympic champion unless Sanya or the Jamaican beats her.

  6. Mad props to Sanya and Allyson and all other amateur-turned-pro runners. They really showed what the US has and how tough we will be in the future. I’m looking forward to the Olympics next year.

  7. I’m sorry for Gail. She should have won the hurdles, but I guess this wasn’t her year. I say she takes gold in Athens after being defeated at the 92 (I think) Olympics and this years Worlds. She is a woman on a mission now. Look out world.

  8. Good job US!!! We still took home the title again as the World’s best.

That’s just my thoughts. Bash them or agree as you please.

i thought the female gold high jumper was awesome, wierd technique, but awesome.

gutsy effort by 4x1 and JJ johnson…

I didn’t see the 4x1 so I couldn’t say anything about it. What happened?

JJ ran down chambers. Chambers didnt look to good. He looked sluggush and kid of like he was running on his heels or making long ground contact.

So we won?

yis sirrrr by .02

from the moment i came on these boards, couple years ago i believe, chambers has never once impressed me…unecessary muscle mass

tk2k,
but im not sure we can really say that. Because we dont know what kind of numbers he is puttin in in the weight room (or do we) and the mass he has may be necessary for him. Mybee if he lost some of that muscle mass his weight to strength ratio would drop and affect his sprinting.

  1. Good job US!!! We still took home the title again as the World’s best.

hehe you’d bloody well hope so! with the best facilities, most money, and some of the best coaches in the world, you’d think that USA would be best in the world…

its not really that much of an ohmygod what an awesome achievement anymore…its just expected…took usa long enough to start coming first in the medal count…

kudos to belarus to leading the medal count for so long into the games…they picked their events well and dominated

I have to say that the 200 was really slow this year, even if the conditions weren’t perfect. I don’t know all the facts but I’m dissapointed in Monty for leaving the meet for as of now seems like no reason (prove me wrong if i am). I feel the IAAF needs to really look into the false start rules so we don’t have another incident.

The 200m times were very slow, I agree. If I’m not mistaken, the 100m times weren’t even under 10 seconds this year in finals? Am I right? That would be fairly slow as well.

RE: 4x100

What is JJ ranked? 6th in the US?!! Chambers is going to have to work very hard to lose the ‘choker’ tag. You should have heard me swearing at the TV…

I agree with the above he’s too big and much in the wrong places. BJ was only 78k(?) Chambers must be around 90k.

That would have been hilarious to see, David.

if i recall correctly the mens 100 was the slowest since 1983.

And I think the 200 was the slowest since the 60’s correct if I’m wrong the time this year was like 20.32, imagine seeing Michael Johnson run his wr race against that field
Oh yea, Kenteris is still the current king of the 200 :stuck_out_tongue:

What impressed me was the women’s 4x100, the way Aaron walked down Edwards was awesome, and the crowd was going nuts. It was definitely one of the big highlights of worlds. Plus the same night Barber wins the women’s long jump on her last attempt (man she’s got some ugly for in air). I always love to see people win medals when there country is hosting the events.

and to see them win two gold medals within ten minutes of each other, unreal

edwards had had 9 races under her belt at that point. did aaron run the 200 as well?
isnt it interesting how the baton change can effect the length of the run.

both aaron and JJ got a better launch out of the baton exchange, and it carried the entire way down to the finish. tho jj was advantaged with having campbell choke.
