MIAMI, Fla. (Sporting Alert) — Steve Mullings says he’s still on heavy lifting, despite still blazing the track as he continues his preparation for the upcoming IAAF World Championships.
The Jamaican sprinter, who trains in Orlando, Fla. under the guidance of Lance Brauman, paced to a sprint double at Terra Sarda athletics meeting in Arzana on Saturday.
He won the men’s 100m in a flashy 9.93 seconds, his fourth fastest over that distant this season – before sealing the double with a comfortable 20.22secs run to win the 200m.
Following his victory, he revealed his world championships preparation phase.
“Me and coach are still working on it (getting ready),” Mullings said. “I am still under heavy training so I don’t know how fast I can go.”
Mullings, who trains with American Tyson Gay, who unfortunately has been ruled out for the rest of the season with an injury – will battle with a host of world class sprinters, including countrymen Asafa Powell and Usain Bolt in Daegu, later this month – and he said he and Brauman are working hard to win a medal.
He said: “We (my coach and I) are working on getting ready so I can get on that podium.”
