What could be the rationale behind Montgomery running in the University/open race? If he is injury free wouldn’t he be better off competing against the big boys?
The University/Open division is not just that, it is the Olympic Development race, none-the-less I was shocked to see him in that race. Maybe he’s looking to get off on the right foot with a win? I don’t know.
The divisions go as follows:
University/College/Open (6 heats)
Olympic Development (2 heats)
Invitational (1 heat)
On a side note, it will interesting how Mo Greene runs. At the Texas Relays he got chewed up by JJ Johnson in the 4x100 anchor leg.

Does anyone have the start lists for the 6 heat Univ/Coll/Open division for men? I can’t seem to access the Mt. Sac site. Can you post them? Thanks.

I wonder if this was a trick all along?
When Montgomery showed up at Modesto in 2001, JS had a fit with the meet promoter and forced him to put Tim in the B section- with only 3 others in the race and separated by several empty lanes (Tim won overall anyway, 9.95 to 10.01 in the A section).
By entering in the B division initially, when he switched to the A section at the last second, there was no room to manouver, and the only alternative for Mo was to run against Tim- or pull out.
This is total speculation on my part, as I have no idea whether or not Tim is ready. Likewise, there are conflicting reports on Mo, though most people think he ran well on the relay in Texas.
Perhaps some confirmation of my theory:
The LA Times has reported that Tim’s agent, Charlie Wells called the meet promoter asking for the change at the last minute. The promoter then called Mo’s agent and he agreed to the change (If he hadn’t, he would have looked bad, given all the earlier discussion about Tim being chicken)
