Maurice Greene, Lisa Barber return to adidas Track Classic
Press Release
CARSON, Calif. (April 27) – Maurice Greene, the dominant sprinter in the world for the past decade and one of the greatest of all time, and Lisa Barber, the latest American sprint sensation, are the newest additions to a star-studded field at the 2006 adidas Track Classic on May 21, organizers announced today. In addition, hip-hop artist and film star Bow Wow will perform as a special guest.
The adidas Track Classic will begin at 12:30 p.m. PT at The Home Depot Center, on the campus of California State University, Dominguez Hills, and will be broadcast live on ESPN from 1 p.m.-3 p.m. PT. (4 p.m.-6 p.m. ET).
Greene, 31, burst onto the international scene when he won the 100-meter gold medal at the 1997 World Championships. He would earn three straight world titles at that distance, in addition to winning the 200-meter World Championship gold in 1999. That same year, he also broke the World Record when he ran 9.79 second, which still makes him the fastest American in history. In 2000, he won two Olympic gold medals, at 100 meters and as anchor of the 4x100m relay.
Barber holds two World Championship gold medals (2003, 2005) from the 4x100m relay, but the 25-year-old came into her own on the international stage this indoor season when she won the World Indoor Championships at 60 meters. She is also the reigning US titleholder at both 60 meters and 100 meters.
