Burgess 5.92m Pole Vault in Mannheim

Australia’s Paul Burgess provided the highlight at a meeting in Mannheim (Germany) on Friday evening (7). Clearing 5.92m the 26 year-old pole vaulter set a world leading mark.

So far his fellow countryman Steven Hooker had been number one this season with 5.91m.

The women’s event was won by another young German pole vaulter. 22 year-old Julia Hütter cleared 4.52m and was not far from jumping 4.63m afterwards.

Elsewhere in Germany during the weekend :slight_smile: Merlene Ottey (Slovenia) ran the 100m in 11.84 seconds with a headwind of 0.2. 46-year-old Ottey placed sixth with this time while Stephanie Durst (USA) won in 11.43.

Coming from Luzern in the morning David Oliver took the 110m Hurdles with 13.25 (+ 1.0). Thomas Blaschek (Germany) was second with 13.38. Franka Dietzsch won the Discus Throw with 65.59m.

While Fabian Schulze won the Pole Vault in Ingolstadt on Saturday (8) with a personal best of 5.81m, Betty Heidler came back strongly after her disastrous European Cup performance without a valid throw. In Schönau she achieved 74.77m on Saturday (8). Kathrin Klaas (all German result) was second with 71.61 m.
