John Smith GPP!

I’m just trying to give a complete picture - injuries and all included.

As for when the actual injury happens, well if you’re pounding a system with high intensity single leg plyo’s and the injury happens playing a pick up game of basketball - basketball is hardly to blame.

Are you sure he was during tons of single leg plyos at that time?

As for the athletes listed - Lets again give the complete picture …

  • Donovan Bailey was his biggest improvement -
But even Bailey ran 6.62 (in the 60m in a race in which he pulled his quad in 1992 indoors) long before he met Dan
  • Bruny Surin was already doing 9.97 going to him and within 16 months was almost permanently injured. …
  • Obadele ran a windy 9.69 before he met Dan - also often injured and never lived up to his early promise
  • Amy Acuff was coached by Bobby Kersee for much of her career, the horrific demise of Llewellyn Starkes with his leg shattered in so many places was unbelievable.
  • Mark Boswell was a World Jr champ before he met Dan and has been chronically injured with lower leg issues
(Boswell is now trainig with Greg Portnoy in Toronto and has begun to get results again on the world stage)
Richard Duncan had some results out of Texas but often couldn’t jump a women’s good result in major comp

Then take as comparison …

John Smith on the other hand (who’s list of accomplishments dwarf’s Dan’s, to be fair) - Mo Greene ran a (windy) 9.79 before he even met John Smith but the difference here was he equalled it legal later and had a vast number of fast times over many years before age and injuries became a limiting factor more recently.

Finally Charlie, I already pointed out the absence of injuries pre 1988 - is in no position of course to speak about who esle he worked with after 1988 - until recently - when he designed Tim’s (and by extension a few other’s) program from the fall of 2000 onwards - but again obviously he’s in no position to speak on this - and there was no injury issues with these athletes dispite the incredibly fast times.

Lets give the complete picture, Dan could coach more athletes if he wanted - its only by choice.

True - and no doubt he’s a nice guy but I just want to oultine the facts which you have to face and debate when deciding what approach you wish to follow.
That’s all.

I agree, I just had the chance to see Dan coach up close in person and was surprise how great the guy was.

Trevor Graham was on his way to equalling Dan and John before things fell through for that group.
My point… develop your own approach.

And John Smith has a bunch of good 200/400 people. None for Dan? Guess he’s staying in the anaerobic alactic events.

LOL - Trevor Graham … “developed his own approach…”? You’re kidding me right?

I know you are smarter than that.

Good!

Becuase before Trevor got the “Project World Record” program designed for Tim (by who know who) in the fall of 2000 and he’d never really had a top male sprinter before … and he had that program going forward with others that followed.

Is there any way to outlaw the term “Worked With?” I swear, it’s the most disengenuous phrased used in athletics. You can spend a 20 minute conversation with some guy, leave clearly convinced that he’s an idiot and next thing you know your name is being used to push his quakery on some naive soul looking for the real deal.

Hey Charlie, Can I fly out and fetch you a few cups of coffee while you’re coaching? I’d love to be able to say… “… WELL YOU KNOW… I ACTUALLY WORKED WITH CHARLIE FRANCIS. YEA, IT WAS GREAT… SO ANYWAY, WHAT YOU NEED TO DO IS…”

sounds like someone i know.

I heard a story once of a coach who said he trained a famous medal winning Olmpic athlete.

The athlete was asked was this true …

“WTF he said he trained me? … I only met him once. He was standing round doing nothing at a track years ago once and I asked him to hold a stop watch for me and time me while I ran a 100 … that was it - and he thinks he trained me?”
