JA get 2011 CARIFTA Games

3 Feb 2011

It’s now official … The 2011 Carifta Games will be held in Montego Bay, St. James, Jamaica. The venue will be the Catherine Hall Stadium.
After months of uncertainty about the Games, North America, Central America and Caribbean (NACAC) announced Catherine Hall as the host venue, confirming trackalerts.com report on Thursday.

In a release to the media, the NACAC office in Kingston said: “The members of the NACAC Board announced today that the 40th Jr. Carifta Games will take place at the Catherine Hall Stadium in St James from April 23-25.”

"NACAC reports that these arrangements were made possible through the cooperation and approval of the Jamaica Amateur Athletic Association (JAAA) despite their earlier concern of the event’s proximity to the very popular Jamaica International Invitational (JII).

“The Local Organizing Committee (LOC), which will plan and execute aspects of the Games, is currently being formulated to include business leaders and members of the track and field community from Montego Bay, and will shortly be a introduced at a Press Conference.”

Earlier attempts to get Jamaica, Bahamas, and Trinidad & Tobago to host also fell through while lately Guadeloupe, Martinique and Turks and Caicos were thrown in the ring, but also failed to materialize.

That’s good for Jamaica. Hopefully, one day they will be able to host Commonwealth Games, Worlds and/or Olympics.
