I'll be fit for Euros - Sotherton

Kelly Sotherton is confident she will shake off her injury scare to compete in the heptathlon when the European Championships get underway on Monday.
The 29-year-old has a long-term back problem which flared up after the Norwich Union London Grand Prix at Crystal Palace last weekend.

“I’m positive I will be OK and ready for Monday,” said Sotherton.

UK Athletics performance director Dave Collins said: “I’m absolutely delighted to hear the good news.”

Sotherton has not been able to train since Crystal Palace but does not think that will be a problem going into the championships in Gothenburg.

“I immediately sought medical treatment, which was brilliant as they knew from the past how to treat my back,” said the Olympic bronze medallist.

"I haven’t trained all week but there’s nothing wrong in that as I wouldn’t have been doing too much anyway.

“They do say a rest is good for you.”

The heptathlon is expected to be one of the highlights of the championships, with Olympic and world champion Carolina Kluft defending her title on home soil.
