I was having a conversation with my 14-year old cousin, and he told me he just started weightlifting and so I asked him about his stats. He seems pretty skinny and tall, but I still asked his stats. Just wondering how he compares to other kids his age.
Age: 14
5"8 120lbs
Squat: 125 lbs
Bench: 90 lbs
One-legged running vertical: 31 inch
He seems like a pretty athletic kid, but 5’8 is not tall for a 14-year old boy.
He might grow, I was the smallest kid in my grade fresh year. I am now a smidgin under 6 ft.

he is weak ass hell to be freshman in highschool.
He should be strong enough not to get thrown into the dumpster, and that’s all that matters fresh. year. (Not that I would know anything about that).
I disagree - I taught PE to 14-year old boys last year, and he is not at all weak for his size and age compared to a class full of kids. His running vertical is pretty good too.

at my hs he would be consider a kitten. i bp 65+ in 6th grade with no training.
Well just finished my freshman year and turned 15.
Bench: 205x1
Squat: 315x2
Deadlift: 265-285
Height: 5’8 3/4
Weight: 151
With no training, I could bench 145 and my squat I could do 205-225.
Just leaving at a comparison.

Good job, keep up the work.
Thanks, though I should I attempt to increase these lifts because its in season? Or just maintain.

Track!!!
maintain, you should pr on the bp.
Ok, something that puzzles me though is how many sessions per week should I be in the gym. What about cleans? Should I try to PR in that?

2x a week and you not trying to pr in anything it will happen bc the speed volume is decreasing.

I would say those numbers are on par for someone just starting out lifting.
If he gets a good program he should be good to go.
Ok so last question, for bench press u said to pr, so if i got still say 3 more weeks till a meet (just had like 7 meets in 6 weeks) should I still be doing like 2 sets or move it to 4-5?
Don’t worry too much about the kid’s height I was 5’10" my freshman year, and I’m a hair under 6’5" now. I was a late bloomer though.
125 bench and could dunk a bball though

Sounds like he’s right in the middle of the pack. The average 14y.o. can barely bench their weight or squat 1.5x their weight. There are a few with better numbers, but they are the early bloomers.
As far as getting bigger later, I was 5’4" and 105 lbs. at 13. I graduated at 6’4" and 210lbs.

At age 14, I was:
5’8
140
bench-190
squat-260
vj-23
40-5.1
Now at 17, I’m 5’9.5, 177. And I’m a whole lot stronger, and I mean a lot.
