hand weights while sprinting

hey i was just wondering, whether light hand weights (.5-1kg) while sprinting or long jog, have a positive or negative effect. they do tend to fatigue arms and cause loss of tecnique after a few run throughs, but i thought if used in small volumes they could add extra power into the arms, sorry if there is a thread on this topic already, i coulndt seem to find anything, if anyone could elaborate it would be greatly apreciated

I think you will find that the general consensus is that they are a not a good idea.

If you need to get the strength of your biceps & delts higher - do work in the weight room, not on the track.

I would have to agree but they could be done in very small amounts and not of any great distance, nothing more than 15m max. I personally use the small 2 1/2lbs weights and do standing runing in place with them, to get my arm speed faster and my driving power up.

Ya, I don’t know how well, if at all, running with hand weights would be, however I remember reading of Maurice Greene doing stationary arm pumps with weights, 15-20 pound dumbbells if I remember correctly for 30 or 45 seconds. I could see that potentionally being useful.
