Did a 2 mile race this weekend

Ran a 12:06 in the 2 mile on concrete (road course) and won the bronze in my age group 21-25. 168 entry’s total.

Most people were surprised a sprinter could do that. I don’t do much if any endurance work. I typically only run 100m and 200m events and only train for those events.

Maybe I should train endurance and get down in the 10’s???

With no offense intended, that isn’t exactly an impressive time. 10 minutes is fair for a high school distance runner.

I absolutely agree.

However, I never went out for track in high school nor in college. So, this 2 mile was a first for me. I am just a normal guy that likes to run on his own. No coach, no formal training, almost 24 years old.

I just started sprinting in USATF meets - just for the heck of it. The 100m and 200m doesn’t really prepare you for the 3200m though. I would say that I am not partial to any one event, because I don’t stand out in any of them. What I am able to do… is a lot of events pretty well.

A couple of really good distance runners told me that if I trained with them I could run in the 10’s pretty easily. So, I didn’t mean for the above post to sound boasting.

might as well train with the distance group if that is what you like and you have guys to train with!

I feel like even if I train for middle distance /distance I can still run the 100m in sub 11 sec. and 200m in sub 23 sec. at meets. I just bought a pair of superfly G5’s so I am not giving up the sprinting just yet. I really like sprinting as I am built like a sprinter (ie very low bodyfat, muscular) and feel “right at home” so to speak, when sprinting.

seb coe used to be able to run 21.5 200m, 46.5 500, 1.41 800, 3.29 1500m
so he still had some good speed even though the races he done are considered endurance.

WOW, that is incredible. I didn’t know it was possible to run a 46.5 500??? (I know you meant 400)

Seb Coe must have been unbelievable to watch in those events. I can’t imagine running any of those times from 400 on up. That is very inspirational knowing that someone had that kind of speed and endurance in one package.
