HAd a terrible race. It felt so slow that I didnt bother waiting for the time. Got blew up in my heat, well Atleast I think i did. lol

there were 5 heats of the 100, I was in heat 4 and it took about 30 mins to get to my heat. Why it took so long who knows, but im sure that wait didnt help me run any faster. Im waiting for the results to get posted. online.

I know since coming back from the injury Ive felt mighty slow at practice. I guess that slowness manifested itself at the meet. Next meet is friday.

dropped a warm 11.62…faster than what I thought…pure garbage

It’s not pure garbage Chris.

That is harsh.

You are not 20, and you have a lot on the go and training and running is not your number one priority. Is it?

You coach yourself.

You are very thoughtful about your training. I find people who train themselves have a more difficult time doing everything correctly. I am not saying that you are not doing everything correctly but it’s tough to do it all alone.

If you were in the height of your splendor and running poorly that would be different. Then maybe someone could say you suck if that makes you feel better.

Let’s look at some of the facts.

Waiting 30 minutes at any meet is typical, expected and it’s your job to deal with that. Did you deal with that well? We don’t know for sure what the impact of waiting is but you need to learn to build waiting into your prep.

It’s also first race. And it was faster than you thought. You have been injured. That will slow everyone down.

Did you allow enough time to get to the meet to warm up and to do everything you needed to prepare? Were you rushed in the warm up, were you laying down and shaking your legs and chilling off to the site waiting for your turn to run? Once you are fully warmed up then that’s it. Then it’s time to put all your clothes back on to keep warm even if it’s a shell as you are in Florida after all and get off your feet and wait your turn. Last nights run might get the cobb webs out of your system and you might get a more clear result when you run again. This Friday or next Friday?

Thanks. I dont get paid to run so its not my first priority. I run for fun. The 30 minute wait was weird because it took so long per heat. When they called my heat we were waiting almost 15 mins at the blocks.

yea i warmed up and got a good prep in. After i warmed up and did some starts i would stride out every 10 mins to keep warm.

I run again this friday after noon. SO im hoping to go much faster.

Seems like all upside Chris. First run following an injury and of the season and you appear to have come through with a clean bill of health. If you had dropped a disappointing time in perfect conditions in great shape then fair to question what’s happening. You will definitely be better for the run… Good luck!

yes being injury free is a plus

What part of Florida are you in Chris?

Is it possible to take that video from the side a bit? Not directly the side but closer to the finish of your rep and if you are starting in the middle lane the camera would be just off the inside lane so we would be able to get a side view?

IM in south florida. Broward county. Yes if we train this sunday we will have two cameras out to try and get two angles.

Felt good. It was hot as hell. was a lil stiff a few hours after.

You are stiff after doing speed that soon after you do the workout?

Don’t you run tomorrow? Compete I mean?

I got home and took a hot shower, rubbed some magnesium oil and woke up feeling good. I did 10x100 on grass and stretched and I feel normal again. Zero stiffness.

I didnt stretch after the workout yesterday which probably contributed to the stiff ness.

But yea I run tommorrow at 3pm.

That was a fair bit of work to do before a meet don’t you think? And not good to be stiff like that at this point so close to racing? Thoughts?

well the 120s i was only about 80%. I was able to run them then walk back no rest needed even tho I took about 10-15 mins between the reps. But ofcourse you could be right.

I didnt go to the gym for fear of doing to much that day also. I have been able to take cat naps at work during lunch all week so Im hoping my CNS will be good to go for tomorrow.

But if I do run terrible then I wil have just learned another lesson.

And along those lines I’ll offer the following, staring Usain in the warmup track:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFzgrH69lT0
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCVYjiwenm4

And following this, I’m on a mission to figure out just how minimal of a warmup I can get away with giving the best results. So for me today:

2X50 stride-throughs @ 50% and 80% (yes, this is the wamup today)
3X40 blocks
3X30m flys from 60m leadin from 3pt (this is Charlie’s finish drill outdoors)

Me: Two weeks from starting final peaking, no stretching, no rubdowns, no tempo. I’m fine.

Something else I’ll mention. Racers Club competition training, which people who have been there watching have seen Usain and others doing with Glen Mills:

Workouts of 110-150 meter repetitions alternating with workouts of 40-60 meter repetitions (not in the same workout of course). If you come from a base of resistance (sleds and hills) for November-March like the Jamaicans and you start doing this, it works very well.

interesting, I had a very minimal warmup today at my meet. lol

How did it go?

5/27 meet
so THe meet was 4 hours away in tampa. I underestimated and should have left the house earlier. Race at 3.got to track at 2, they didnt have me registered so I had to wait for the manager, so with all the waiting for him i didnt start warming up until 240! 3x100 strides, pushups, a few drills, a few stretches and more strides until it was time to run. I like to not feel rushed and take my time during warm ups so that didnt happen. I also like to get a sub max run in about 80 meters and a few starts…that didnt happen.

I ran 11.6 again today, but this was a better race because i only ran 40 meters hard and literally cut it off after for fear of getting hurt after my short warm up. so last week i ran a wide open start to finish 11.6 and today it was 40 hard and 60 easy. I damn near walked the last 10. So I am much happier with this race. glad it was hot out.

I was put into a slower heat with masters because of my re-register. I think this was a blessing cause i ran super relaxed. It was a confidence builder race. second place was 12 something.

I also ran my first 200 in 3 years. I ran a hot 24 seconds. again in a slow heat. I had planned to run 40 fast 80 easy 80 fast, but after 40 meters i had a 20 meter lead on second place and ended up cruising the last 160. Second place was a college kid. He tried to come back but my lead was too big off the curve. I liked that race pattern. I think if I had hit it the last 80 then i wouldve gone lo 22. not bad for 3 years of race avoidance.

ALot of pro guys ran, dix ran 10.03, g phiri was there and many others. I dont know all the results yet but it was some fast times.
