Super Sunday #7

Arrrrrrggg, I’m not happy at all with today.

My 60 meter run was awful. I started out okay and was a good meter up on the closest guys but then my foot didn’t land flat on the ground on one of my strides and it threw off my whole race. I had to try and re-accelerate but gave up with 20 meters to go and finished 3rd at 7.50

My 150 was more disapointing than awful. I was hoping to finally drop into the 17.0-17.1 range but it wasn’t in the cards. I felt like I gave a good effort with my race but I just couldn’t get anything out of my legs. I lost in my heat to a guy I should have beat and ran a 17.47 which is the same time I ran 2 months ago without freakin blocks :mad:

Finally I ran a 300 and was just dead tired. My plan was to take the first 60-70 out hard but that turned into 30. There was a 10.7 sprinter running outside of me and by the turn he was a good 20 meters ahead. I chased him down a bit on the straight but I ran the first about 180 so slow that my time wasn’t great, I ran a 38.14 which is still a PB but I was looking for a mid 37 time.

This is probably the most disapointing competition I’ve ever ran, including the one where I was a photo finish from OFSAA. Everybody I’m running against is peaking and because of my injury I’m just coming back to actual sprint training and stinkin up the track. I get a week break then it’s back to GPP which is what I need. A disapointing indoor season outside of a few runs, hopefully I’ll be better than ever by school season.

*Just learned that the guy who beat me in the 300 was slated to be in the World Indoor Championships so needless to say I wasn’t optomistic going in.

My coach is registering me in a race before school season. As far as I know right now this is the only one I’m running before West NCSAA. It’s on April 21st and I’m running a 100 meter at the dome. Hopefully with my “connections” I can get in lane 5 or 6.

There are 4 at the dome before school season but the 200s are all being ran without blocks which is gay. I just want to get a 100 time down so I know where I am, and seeing as I’ll be a month from peaking I’ll know that I can expect faster times down the road.

Fitness update as well, just cause I haven’t mentioned anything like this since about this time last year.

BF % = 10%
Bench = 180
Clean = 175 (was 180 before injury :mad: )
Squat = 290

All results in pounds. Clearly my squat needs loads of work. I don’t have much power in the first 20 meters compared to other guys I race against and I’d like to improve my squat considerably.

Ran an 11.5 100 meter today in pratice from a standing start. I timed it myself so if anything the time should be lower but when you factor in reaction it goes up a bit. But then blocks and that has to take off at least .2, shit I’m psyched for high school season.

I just learned that I have to spend some of my summer at this fucking dome track which really pisses me off. The fucking track is so far from my house that it’s a pain in the ass to get too and the track isn’t even good. It’s a joke that they hold important competitions there like CWG trials, when people in lanes 1-3 are at a huge disadvantage cause the track isn’t even freaking flat. The corners friggin suck too because they’re so tight, but it’s the bumpy straightaway that is embarassing, and they dare to call this facility “the best in the world”.

On a more positive note, it’s time to get to my goals for outdoor season. I plan to count my race at the dome on April 21st as outdoor and would consider walking out on my race if I’m in an inside lane.

My goals are…

100 - 11.0x
200 - 22.5
400 - 52

I have a feeling that at some point I’ll hit an 11.0 time this summer if I get a good wind at my back. I was going for 10.9 this summer earlier but my hamstring injury that basically made me lose 3 months probably hurt those chances.

I think my 200 goal is the most likely to achieve because it’s now my best event and my speed endurance is pretty solid. If I can pull off a 100 time of 11.15-11.25 I think I can run that 200 time. My coach is a speed endurance freak so we’ll probably be working a lot of that in the summer as well.

I’ll probably run a few 400s in the summer but I’ve never ran one before so I don’t know what to expect. My endurance drops off after the 200 so I have a feeling my first 400 is gonna be pretty rough but I can see me having success in this event in the future.

Some standards I’d like to make are…

  • OFSAA final in the 200 meter
  • top 12 at OFSAA for the 100 meter
  • top 5 at Ontario Legions
  • OTFA final in both 100 and 200 meter
  • do not come last in my heats at Junior Nationals :smiley:

Yea man 200 is all in your speed endurance. I know a guy who is 11.2 at his BEST with +2.0 wind and he has a 200m pb of 21.9x. Given he is a 400m runner though :smiley:

shit if you hit 11.0 you’ll be right on my ass :eek: :smiley: good luck keep posting

Thanks for the luck

One of my teamates was invited to race at the Rowland Games in Toronto and because she was invited I have the option of going or not. Is anyone going and / or can anyone tell me if it’s being run on the same track where OFSAA is being held?

I think I heard the date was April 29th so it’s very good timing for me.

It’s getting to school season time again. I will be running in an event called the Rowland Games on April 29th in the 100 and 400 (they have no 200). Anybody here going, let me know. It’s on the Etobicoke track where OFSAA is, so it’ll be a good experience.

Times are already starting to come in from some places. Results are up at…

In the same workout I did 2 weeks ago where I ran 11.5 I ran an 11.3 today. Things are looking great, I feel very powerful from 30-70. I feel a little drained closing and I don’t have the power in my quads to have a better start. Hopefully I could drop at worst an 11.4x April 21st.

Nice, so they set up the Electronic Timing System for our practice ?

No, handtimed, from before I start till after I cross the line. I just used the watch I wore.

Ran an 11.26 handtimed today and from lane 2 so there was the hump to deal with.

It felt good, I’ll see what I’m really running this Friday.

We had probably the hardest weight training session I’ve ever really seen. I’ve never had such painful cleans before as I did today (4x5 @ 85%)

I open the season tomorow at the dome. If I don’t run sub 11.5 then I will be incredibly pissed. Basically if I were to guess a time right now it would be a high 11.3 but I have no idea what I am capable of really.

all the best to you for the season. I am sure that you will reach all your goals

Good luck! Let it come, you have what it takes…

Just got back from the Sens game, 4-1 :smiley:

Anyways back to my race. I was really pissed off afterwards because I blew it before I even had a chance to run but I;m basically gonna throw it away.

What happened was when I got into the blocks and we got to set I moved my foot back way too fast on the back block and slipped. I was out of the blocks a good 1-2 meters behind the field. Here’s the sad thing though. Yesterday I burning the starts, I was 3-4 meters up when we were doing 40s against 12 flat runners. Well today I didn’t gain any ground until about 60 meters on high 11 runners and was infact last in my race until 60 when all of a sudden I kicked into speed and blew the field away by about 3 or 4 tenths in that time.

I ran an 11.67 but ya basically it means nothing because the race was wrecked from the beginning and I don’t know what the fuck happened with the first half of my race.

Btw Jordy if you see this. Mike is the real effing deal, he now kicks ass out of the blocks (11.16 today). He’ll probably run like a 22.6 without blocks next week.

Oh ya, I dislike the dome a lot. I haven’t really had a good race there yet. Can’t wait till Terry Fox.

hmm interesting. From the sounds of it that could have easily of been 11.4x!

better luck next time…

It was weird, I’m sure if you timed that first 60 of the race and I didn’t have that fumble from the blocks it would have been like 7.6 :o
