I ended up only running the 100 meter and no the 200 because of hamstring problems. My heat turned out pretty easy and I ended up winning my race at a time of 11.62 which is basically no different from my times from the summer. I know my start was pretty crappy cause I was having these short choppy steps and probably my hamstring wasn’t giving me 100% too. Judging by the times of other people in my group and mine I think we’re still far off from peaking. I’ll be dropping that time soon enough. I might be off training the week though, just to rest up and make sure I’m ready for Legions.
Legions was today and I didn’t run, I got some volunteer hours helping with hurdles though. I could be out up to a month but I’m looking to be back early February. I’m doing physio and getting massages so my hamstring is getting worked on and will hopefully be as strong as ever. I’m starting to wonder if breaking my foot maybe was a reason why my right hamstring could be weaker then my left.
Oh ya, it’s quite handy with this new track that we can have around 10 competitions over the winter there. Not to mention there’ll maybe be some other ones in Toronto or Montreal that the club will go to. It’s a busy winter.
Anyways my hamstring’s coming along great. I ran a 500, 400 and 300 basically full out in flats today and also did some cleans and didn’t feel the slightest aggravation. If all goes to plan I might be back in time for the competition next Sunday.
I had 3 races today and felt pretty good going in, I had never ran any of these distances before in competition so it’ll be something new…
My first race was a 60 meter. They screwed up the heats pretty bad and basically I ended up winning my heat by 2 tenths while there was a guy in flats running like 8 and a half seconds in the faster heat then mine. I ran a 7.41 which isn’t bad for my first time. I want to get that down into the 3s next time I run, which is in 2 weeks in Montreal.
Next I had a 150 meter which turned out to be one of the most fucked races I’ve ever ran. After 4 heats they decided to take away blocks which pissed off everyone, some guy in my heat just left cause he didn’t want to run without them. I was 2nd for the most part of the race to a guy who ran 7.25 in the 60 and I was back by about a meter until he pulled up and I cruised in for the win at 17.47 which would probably mean 17.3x if I had blocks.
My coach sucked me in to running a 300 at the end which I was dead tired for. I was last place for 150 meters then at about the 120 I turned it on and passed everybody in the race and ran a time of 38.26 which if I wasn’t dead tired I’m sure could have been 37.x
For the last 300 they had my time as 35.26 so I had this huge plan that I was gonna switch to a 400 runner but then they realized it was a mistake and changed it to the right time
On a side note, I’m unbeaten at the Dome at Ottawa, I’m going to have to lower my seed times because I think basically everyone else is doing that.
Well I don’t think it’s really any faster then a normal track. Only problem is a hump on the straightaway. I also don’t like that the curve is tighter then normal 400 meter tracks but it’s still a lot better then having to run on a normal indoor track. It’s also attracting a lot of talent, many of Canada’s top sprinters have all been coming by regularly, I’m not sure about other events though.
I only ran the 60 at this meet and I will run a 200 tomorow in Ottawa. My hamstring was a little sore after I ran but didn’t bother me during my runs today.
In my preliminary race I had a poor start and found myself behind the whole field. That lasted a full 2 meters and I sped away and won the heat by like .4 or .5 with a 7.39 to qualify 2nd overall
In the finals I had the exact lane I wanted. I was running beside the fastest qualifier who has ran multiple 7.1x times so I was in tough. I got out of the blocks slowly but the form on my start was much better then preliminaries. I ran down the 1st qualifier but just couldn’t get close enough at the end. I ran a 7.33 and finished 2nd to him.
Overall a pretty good day. I PBed and am happy with those times considering the state of my hamstring. My clean max dropped about 20 pounds since I took a couple weeks off practice to recover.
Finally, after battling through this damn hamstring injury things are starting to look promising. Another day, another PB set.
I ran a 200 meter today. My hamstring was tingling a bit before I ran but was fine by the time I finished my warmup. I had seeded myself really low (23.0) because the track is know to take blocks away from the heats after the first few so I thought I might be in tough. I took the top of the corner lightly but burned it at the end and was in first a stride ahead of a guy inside. Throughout the push of the 3rd 50 meters I increased that lead comfortably but something felt wrong. I’ve never struggled through the last 50 meters like I did in over a year and I thought I took the corner fairly easily.
Needless to say I set a new PB at 23.24 which now makes me believe I can hit sub 23 in a month at the next Sunday Series where they have 200s. I’ll just have to make sure I’m getter ready for that race cause something was up.
Today was the last competition before I’ll be taking some time off because 1. I really want to be 100% healthy come outdoor and not have nagging injuries and 2. The past 2 weeks I’ve been dieing in the longer sprints so I might be burning out a bit, either that or I’m not in good enough shape yet.
My first race was a 60 meter and I got to the track a little later than I wanted to and had a somewhat rushed warmup. The starter was a complete moron, 2 people got DQed in the heat ahead of me because he would keep them in set for so long. Our heat spent at least 4 seconds in set until he let us go. My race wasn’t bad, I stayed low but my strides were short and choppy unlike my 60 final in Montreal. I ran a 7.37 which isn’t bad, I have 1 more 60 before outdoor so it would be nice to break 7.3
My second race was a 150. It wasn’t a very good race but especially considering a not bad time. My start was just like my 200, took it easy, I really eased up for about 10 meters after 20 meters and I really don’t know why. I went all out and was second hitting the straightaway by about a meter but unlike my usual races I didn’t have the finishing kick and felt died as Jordan (haven’t seen you on here for awhile) pulled away from me and won by about 2-3 meters. Congrats on the sub 17 by the way. I ended up running a 17.26 so hopefully I can get a few practices in before the competition 2 weeks from now so I can actually finish the 200 strong and hopefully go sub 23.
My glute injury is feeling great. I had a massage yesterday and today I was able to clean 145 lbs compared to my recent max of 165 with absolutely no problems at all. I have another massage tomorow and hopefully I’ll be good for the competition March 5th but if I’m not 100% then I will not run. Getting rid of this injury is priority #1 because the past 2 months my training has been so off and on I’ve been unable to apply myself, I probably will not be as good as I’d like by school season but by the end of the outdoor season I should have made some big gains.
Goals for the next 2 indoor meets…
60 meter - 7.2x
150 meter - 17.0x or less
200 meter - 22.99 or less
School team signups were today. Last year they were a good 3-4 weeks later so that kinda surprised me. I talked to my coach and it looks like I get to help out with coaching the sprinters which should be kinda kool.
Looks like my school schedule will be as follows…
West National Capital - May 9th-10th
National Capital - May 18th
EOFSAA - May 26th
OFSAA - June 1st-3rd
There seems to be some dome competitions that our school might get involved in. I’m not that interested because they don’t allow blocks for the 200 and I don’t want to run the 100 in an inside lane with the hump.
And OTFA’s are looking pretty sweet, a 5 day trip  . That’s gona be fuckin fun
Well after the last indoor competition in 1 week we’re supposed to head back into GPP and then we should be in competition (peaking) phase from East Regionals for school to Junior Nationals.
Arrg very frustating day, this fucking injury has basically ruined my indoor season. I know what I could have ran and what I did run are very different.
Today I ran a 200 against 2 guys I’ll be up against for school track. I came out of the blocks at usual pace but I was getting passed about 50 meters from the stagger, which I didn’t get too worried about. I burned it before the turn but as soon as I hit the straightaway, something wasn’t right. My legs were burning from lactic acid and I was done. I was about a meter back at the start of the curve and ended .4 back of the winner and .3 back of second. My time was 23.38
This isn’t an isolated problem with dying on the straightaway, my past 150 and 200 there were signs of it but never this bad. I think my injury has finally really caught up with me and it’s my speed endurance that I lost with my time off. I’m just going to go all out for a week and then get ready for GPP and hopefully by school seasons I will be easily sub 23, anything less and I will be pissed. On the bright side, I think my hundred is fairly strong and that I could run a low 11.4 or 11.4 flat with no wind.
my pb is 10.83 but, when I was sick one weekend I doubled 100m in 11.52 and 200m in 22.96. so if you are under 11.5x you should be able to do it, and seeing as my speed endurance sux aswell…
keep posting man im enjoying reading your progress :D.
Ya, like I will be really surprised if I don’t break 23 this summer, seeing as I’ve done maybe a week’s worth of spike work the last 2 months.
I think right now I might be just not running as well because I’m all of a sudden starting hard, which happened last summer when I first started training regularly and my muscles get worn out cause they aren’t used to the workouts.
My coach says he thinks I’ll run the following times this summer…
100 meter - 11.0
200 meter - 22.6
400 meter - 47-48
Don’t know where he thinks I can run that kind of a 400 but I think the 100 and 200 times are achievable and I’d actually hope to run a faster 200 then that.
Yea man, its all about building for a big meet. You wanna just keep running, keep the momentum going and when its near the big meets make sure you are getting in some overspeed.
for example, im 17 btw, this is how my last season went.
opened with 11.33
keept training and working on technique
next race 11.29
then 11.13
keept building momentum
did very very basic overspeed
then 10.99
then 10.83
when you get to running the fastest races of your season it feels like your not even trying…
I just want to show u how easy it is 2 improve half a second.
