Tonight was Twilight meet #6 and I ran a 200 meter.
Before the race I wasn’t feeling too great. I had some pasta with runny sauce before and I felt like I was ready to unload it at any moment. I got through the race but tripped at the last 20-30 meters because I got really tight all of a sudden and immediately lost my stride. I won my heat with a time of 23.93 into the wind, considering that I actually finished the race the way I felt, I’m happy.
Although there were no PBs on the track there was some in the bathroom afterwards. The bar has been raised to 2 curtesy flushes, that is all I will say.
I leave for Legions Friday and run Saturday morning. If anyone’s gona be there at St. Catherines come check out my race . My goal is to make the finals.
I didn’t make the finals. Which was a disapointment. I came 9th place so I was one spot off. I felt I ran a really strong race but my form just left me at the end. I’m starting to think that it might be a psychological thing that’s making me struggle at the end and sacrifice my form. I’m going to try and maintain relaxing better at the end of my race.
Anyways I ran an 11.78 into a -1.7 wind so it wasn’t a band race, I suppose that’s like an 11.68-11.70 with no wind. At least I seem to be improving a little bit every race.
Also there were some crazy times going on in the 200. The most surprising was when some 15 year old (Carlisle Stanford, i think his name is) ran a 22.46. Into the friggin wind!
edit: lately I’ve had serious thoughts about trying hurdles, if anyone has any tips or advice let me know
Things went pretty well conisdering. I was really sore all day because of the huge weight workout we did yesterday. I was having trouble walking up stairs in the morning was how bad it was. Anyways I massaged myself countless times before I ran my 100 meter. It didn’t go bad, I didn’t feel strong at the beginning, probably because of soreness but I finished not too bad and ran an 11.66 with a slight wind at my back I think and finished 1st in my heat.
Running a hard 100m when you’re tired and your muscles are exhausted is VERY dangerous. I’ve hurt my hammy so bad I couldn’t walk for a weak because I ran an 800 after a hard lift day. AN 800! Be careful. Otherwise, that’s a great job on the 11.66.
Thanks, well ya I realise that was kinda dumb, I was supposed to run a 400 after but I decided not to. If the lifting this week is like last I’ll probably either not run the Twilight or not lift.
As of right now I’m not sure whether I’ll be going to OTFAs or not, but most likely not cause I’ll be on vacation.
I’m back from OTFAs this weekend and I have mixed feelings. Day 1 was probably my most disapointing track day ever but Day 2 I broke my 200 PB twice. I also saw Big Ben (Johnson) and my mom got his autograph for me .
In my first race of the hundred prelims I figured if I ran my race I’d have a decent shot of qualifying for the semis. I was in the lane beside the OFSAA record holder for the 200 and I guess the pressure got to me. I got out of the blocks behind all the sub 12 runners and shot up right away after 2 steps. After awkwardly running behind 2 runners for most of the race I nearly tripped at the end and finished 5th in my heat with a time of 11.69, oddly I was still only 0.06 off the semis after my worst race of the year, even worse then my East Regional race where I ran 12.24
The 100 relay was really disapointing. After watching a stacked Misissauga team run a 43 we figured we’d be able to make 2nd comfortably but firts handoff, we drop the batton…it was disapointing to know that we could have had a medal in the event but what happened happened and there will be way more opportunities later.
In the 200 prelims I was running in the same heat as the OFSAA record holder again. I figured it was only a final after so I burned it with all I had. I had lane 7 and the record holder had 5 and when I saw him running beside me on the curve was when I stopped my acceleration and burned it. He gained maybe 1 or 2 meters on me on the straightaway but that was it. I finished 2nd ahead of another strong 200 runner on the inside and PBed with a time of 23.43 into a -1.7 wind. Also there was a crosswind in our face on the corner so that time could have been even lower.
To my surprise rather then a finals they had 2 heats of semis so I made it in. They stacked the 1st heat and I managed to get an inside lane on the 2nd heat. I finished 4th in my race at 23.61 but I had just no energy left in the heat after running that first time and I waited a little longer to end my acceleration and push.
I ran a 4x800 as well but that was just ugly, my split time was 2:40 and we came 2nd last.
Overall it was a solid competition, I’ve got 1 more competition on Wednesday at the last Twilight where I’ll run a 100. I figured with a good race I could have ran an 11.5x at OTFAs so I’ll hopefully PB there. I’ve got a nagging quad so I’m gona rest it up for Wednesday(I almost pulled out of my first 200 cause of it).
Ran the last Twilight of the year today. I only ran a 100. It was rainy and crappy and lucky me I got lane 1 where all the water was.
I ran a crappy race, I just didn’t feel powerful at all. I think my time was 11.77 but I’m not sure, all I know is I sucked. Not a good way to go out, but I’m going to talk to my coach about having more speed sessions cause we only seem to have them like once a month.
We got a break from training for a week and a half but I already had a week long holiday and feel pretty recovered so for about a week starting today I will continue doing training at home and try and head out to the track once at some point.
…
Alright confirmation, the time was 11.77 and into a -2.0 wind so I don’t feel as bad as I did before. I mean that’s basically my best run so far and I didn’t even feel that great while doing it and I literrally ran through puddles.
Alright, the summer season is now done for me. I’m happy with the improvements I’ve made especially in the 200 meter. Last year my best time was a 25.32 with a 2.7 wind behind me. This year I’m still surprised now that I managed to run a 23.43 into a big enough wind. According to the wind calculator thing that’s a 23.27 and then there was also the wind in our face on the corner which would mean an even lower time.
My biggest disapointment this year was my inability to lower my 100 time. Last year it was by far my best event, seeing as I finished last in my east regional heat in the 200. Going from an 11.99 to an 11.63 isn’t as big an improvement as I had hoped. However in the indoor season I’m anxious to run some 60s, since my race basically drops off after 70-80 meters, the short runs should be good for me.
My next competition will not be till December when apparently we’ll be having indoor twilights on a new 400 meter track that’s I think just getting finished up now. So they’ll be running 100s and stuff too. My goal to hit in the winter is 11.35 which I think basic conditioning can get me pretty close to. I’ve never been timed for a 60 before, so I don’t really have any goals. And for the 200 on the 400 meter track I’d like to break 23.
Hopefully some of you guys from other parts of Ontario can make it up for some races in the new track. If not I guess I’ll probably end up seeing you guys next summer season.
Just started in the new 400 meter dome yesterday. It’s pretty nice except for a small hump thats on the straightaway but seems to only affect the inside 2 or 3 lanes.
Hope to see some of you guys from here there in the winter for some of the competitions they’re holding. Check for the schedule of all competitions at www.ottawalions.com
Hey, looks like a missed a bit.
Gj on breaking ur pb last summer. Looks like you had an pretty good time at OTFA.
I injured myself last summer so I had no OTFA. Now I’m doing indoor track.
Maybe I’ll see you around at some meets.
The first meet at the 400 meter dome is in 2 weeks, hope to see you around there sometime. I think I might go to some ones at like McGill too and that’ll probably be it for me besides Legions.
I missed the first competition because of a hamstring injury and with perfect timing the last practice before the next competition it starts acting up again.
January’s a busy month for me, I have a competition this Sunday, Legions the next Sunday and then another one 2 Sundays later. Hopefully I’ll see some of you guys at Legions in Toronto.
