So lets say something like:
warm up
3x10m/3x30m
then the main part:
4x60m
1x120m
2x150m
Would this workout, or do you have to divide it up always when working on top speed and speed endurance.

Are you that busy during the rest of the week
Some weeks
you are only 15yrs old and that volume is too high for one session.
That volume is too high?
wow…lol guess u learn something knew everyday. I see guys my age doing something like 5x30m then 6x150m.
the 1x120, 2x150 would be one workout for world class sprinters. 5x30, 6x150 is not pure speed its probably int tempo 80-90%.
My recovery time inbetween those 120-150s is about 15 minutes, i would do a short 30m jog, then shake my legs out and sit down and listen to musix and text lol. Then get up 15 mins later and do a few run offs at around 50-60% speed over around 20m to get ready. Btw i’d have my warm ups on and take them off after and do the run.
They are instructed most of the time to go full speed although of course it would be impossible to listen. I usually do a few 10-30m sprints and one 60m sprints before speed endurance work though…
In the Vancouver download, the L-S plan has speed and speed end in the same session.
John Smith has workouts like 5X60 + 3X200 during prep for indoor. The 60’s are run all-out, often from 3pt, and the 200’s are @90% (special endurance). There are also weekly sessions of 5-6X150 during prep for outdoors run fast (not tempo of any kind) with 6-8 minute rest, with the last 50 being timed (emphasis on relaxation). Borzov has also mentioned mixing 60’s and 200’s in one of his writings. Now, these ARE being run by world class and near world class.
Possibly if you cut things down to, say, 3X60+2X150 (and the 150s are SE1) high school age athletes could do the workout. But Charlie has warned in the past about injury risk mixing speed and SE in the same workout. I’m guessing the risk comes from loss of form from all the speed, then trying to maintain for much longer periods when you are already tired and your form has already broken down. The world class people I know are dong this as speed plus special endurance (so it isn’t maximum speed and form breaks are less of a risk). If you are really doing SE after speed, I’d limit it to just one effort in the 120-150 range.
I’d separate the sessions. i don’t see why not. That way, in a three speed session week 2 are speed (highest stress) and one is SE (slightly lower stress). Two speed sessions per week gives one speed and one SE.
would you lean towards a two session week for a lower level athlete?
Usually but I wouldn’t write it in stone. Likewise, a higher level athlete may wish to combine Speed And SE at times but I wouldn’t start out that way.
hmmm interesting…
i was always taught never to combine the 2 as it confused the body systems…
but, kerron clement and his new coach do combine them, and as im understanding many other do as well…
