Brussels: Bolt wins in 9.77

Just saw the race on espn. Nobody seemed to get a good start, powell damn near fell over.

Powell was winning up to about 65 meters with Bolt edging him out after that. Very good race.

Race is supposed to be on espn 2 again at 3:30 pm and espn classic at 11pm I believe.

I thought Powell got an amazing start (but I was just watching an online feed). Powell was up by over a meter at 70 then got blown up. Looks like if he had any chance in hell of winning vs Bolt ever again, this was it

To me, this is further confirmation that Powell’s situation was physical in beijing rather than mental.

Lots of people commented that Asafa seemed quite nervous before the race in Beijing. Well the announcers were saying that he looked nervous in this race too. HOnestly, he had the same demeanor in Brussels as in Beijing as far as I could tell. Yet he ran an extremely solid race today.

So if we are to judge his mental state based on how he appears before the race, one can state that he was mentally the same here as in Beijing. Maybe he was very nervous or maybe thats his way of being calm. Regardless, his mental state was the same.

So if his mental state was the same, that indicates that it was the difference in physical state which was responsible for the difference in the results.

I agree with your comments. Going with Asafa’s mental state, why was he so happy after the race? He got beat by .06 by a guy with a .223 reaction time.

wind -1.3 mps

asafa seemed much more focused, I mean truly focused today.

Take a look at what the wind reading was…!

well that would be cause he felt he gave all he could on the track, he knew he ran a good race.

Well Asafa and Bolt are really good friends.

With 0.223 reaction time and -1.3 wind into cold and wet weather, he lost about 0.20sec?

He got beat but I wouldnt say blown up. he started pressing and dipped early at the end if he had relaxed through like his last race it would have really come down to a lean.

You have to keep in mind in each of his major championships there was something besides nerves going on. False-start, questionable competition, and injuries. Tell me one year where there wasn’t one of the above. With that being said Powell beat Bolt right before the olympics. I think they will go back and forth in the 100m. And yes I believe Powell does have some psych problems.

OMG, just saw the wind reading? Was anyone there to confrm the strength of the wind? It certainly did look like Asafa was fighting it.

Why was Asafa happy? I think he can see that by cleaning up his race and getting a tailwind of no wind, he can do it.

Yea I have no doubt he can run the WR but doesn’t look like he can defeat Bolt anymore (fast gun and Bolt’s reaction was .223 and he still lost). Maybe he’s happy that this is Bolt’s last race of the season and he still has a few more races left.

About the wind…who knows. It originally showed up as -.9. Then some results had it -1.1 then then other results had it -1.3.

Bolts the fastest human ever and asafa’s the second fastest human ever. Thats all we gotta really say anyways. Though Bolt…disgusting start and a 9.77 into such a headwind? …??? This guys just a freak…plain and simple.

BTW, how many more sub 10s till Powell has gone passed Mo for the most? How many has he got this season? He should have 4 more maybe by end of the season? Or likely 3 more?

I did not notice the reaction time. Wow.

Response to Charlie about why was Powell so happy?

I think he was happy for his friend.

I was there, and there was alot of wind.
After his world record, I noticed that Bolts start, especialy his reaction time is not good. Is this his way of not running a WR? Letting it look like he goes full force trying to break the WR but saving it to keep his start money high enough for a longer period? Because next year: every 100m he runs will be a possible WR attack. Is there any better way of putting your track and field meeting in the picture by having him break the WR in yours?
I don’t know alot about the $ business around it, but it seems logical.

He probably would have doubled his money if he had broken the WR, so how does that figure in your thoughts

I would love to see Asafa run World Indoors!! Imagine the 60m time!!! No one in the world would touch him i believe.

What’s even cooler is…the Jamaica relay team finished 1, 2, 3, 4. Coincidence? Nahhhh…
