Bolt bolts to 19.96 in Trinidad
Tuesday 29 May 2007
Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago - Jamaica’s Usain Bolt, the World junior record holder for 200m, took a 19.96 second win on Sunday (27) in the men’s invitational 200 metres at the Hampton International Games, the first-ever legal sub-20 half-lap run on the islands.
Bolt was in full control as he came off the bend, leaving Trinidad and Tobago track star Darrel Brown (20.51) and Dominica’s Chris Lloyd (20.56) in his wake. USA’s Mickey Grimes (20.68) finished fourth, while another American Kyle Farmer (20.96) was fifth.
This was the first 200m of 2007 for the 20-year-old Bolt who has a personal best of 19.88 which he ran when coming third behind Xavier Carter and Tyson Gay in what was an epic race in Lausanne, Switzerland last July.
Bolt, who later in the season finished second at the IAAF World Cup in Athens in 19.96, has so far had three runs at 400m this year - 45.92 (10 Feb), 45.62 (1 May) and 45.28 PB (5 May) - as well as helping his IAAF HPTC squad colleagues take the Gibson 4x100m relay title in 38.70 (24 Feb).
