Hi,
I’ve been a member for quite some time and i’d like to say thank you for the information, here.
Anyway, i think this is the right place to ask for advice because i’m getting a bit frustrated at my job(one of them).
I’m the S%C coach for a division 2 basketball team, and i’s like some advice on how to plan my training sessions. I’m mostly a strength coach , but as i finish the university, i’m turning more and more into the conditioning aspect aswell.
I have 4 days to work, with 30-45 mins to warm-up and do the conditioning. I tried the High low approach, but i think i can’t pull it off because i’m very short on time. The head coach is an idiot, but that’s another issue.
My current plan is this:
Monday: Off
Tuesday: Conditioning
Wednesday: Speed and some BW stuff( don’t have access to a gym, or everything would be much easier)
Thursday: Mobility + some change of direction drills
Friday: Light work
Saturday. Game
Sunday: off
I planned it this way because the players aren’t that fast nor that strong, so the CNS stress wouldn’t be that high, allowing for proper recovery. What do you think?
My other option would be:
Monday: Off
Tuesday:Speed + Med ball throws
Wednesday:BW stuff + Conditioning(moderate)
Thursday: A little of COD drills and then speed
Friday: Tempo + maybe some medball work
Saturday: Game
What do you guys think?
Edit: Managing 19-20 guys is a nightmare, when you don’t have much experience on how to organize the session
First, dont call your boss an idiot because you never know, he could be on this forum.
Why are your athletes only playing one game per week?
Since they are playing games I wouldnt be during your schedule.
Sun: MB/GS regen circuits
Mon:Rest (I assume they have bb prac)
Tue: Total body session
Wed: Rest (I assume they have bb prac)
Thur: Upper session
Fri: Rest or Light neural work
Sat: Game
Monday: Tempo
Tuesday:RSA + Strength Full Body
Wednesday: Low Intensity O2
Thursday: MB Power work
Friday: Short/Light Agility/Psychokynetic* work
Saturday: Game

Welcome in hell but… it can get worse, LOL.
Not moving any object with your mind power, just agility drills with auditory or visual variables.
I’d be amazed if there was anothr Portuguese member, here, let alone my boss.
Regarding the 1 game/week: Welcome to European basketball.
Since they are playing games I wouldnt be during your schedule.

The training days are tuesday through friday, there’s no other option. And i do my thing before or after team practices.
I don’t have access to any weights. A gym would make my life so much easier
We’ve been training, with the first option i mentioned. It has been going really well, but, as perfectionist as i am, i want to know how to do it optimally, and learn some more, regarding other planning options.
Training/games schedule:
Monday: off
tuesday: Team practice( i have 30-40 mins to do my thing)
wednesday: Same
Thursday: Same
Friday: Same
Saturday afternoon: game
Sunday: off
I can’t change the schedule.
In most European countries, there’s only 1 game/week
My guys have never done this kind of work and they are “slow”,not explosive enough and not strong enough.
The head coach’s practice time is spent doing some very very slow stuff, plays, etc. Not much running game at all.
We want to play a running game, with quick transitions(the players agree that we need to work on it, and if the coach can’t see the need, i have to pick up the slack),and half-court pressure defense so, i’m trying to do whatever i can to compensate for the rest of the session with speed work, medball throws+ sprint, BW work, COD drills(very simple and low volume).
I only have 2 3kg medballs, a couple of 2kg’s and some more 1kg ones. This is not enough,IMO, and i requested more stuff. But,for now, it’ll have to do. Medball circuits are hard to organize, under these conditions. Any suggestions are more than welcome.
