What’s happened to Fasuba?

Women’s 800 m wasn’t bad either with 9 sub-2:00 performances!

women triple jump was prety sweet also with 3 girls over 15m

(btw, there was this russian jumper Viktoriya Gurova i think was her name, this 5.9, blue eyed, blond rip-your-heart-out-to-stop-hurting-from-pure-love that actually slaped her ass red before every jump. I shit you not, i almost had six heart attacks with her.)

About olu…well, the whole 100m thing wasnt too “hot”. The weather didnt help, it was cold and windy for greek summer standarts, all in all it was a very mediocre race. Though, i have to say, Olu has a phenomenal 50-60m race, but he cant maintain it. He is very young though and pierjean a briliand mind, hopefully we will see good things in the future.

I tried finding pierjean in the stadium but couldnt, so too bad…hopefully he will talk as through it

Fasuba comes from an infection caused by insect bite on 14 May and complete lack of treatment in Africa (a great coach and doctor who have worked for decades in Africa told me he had never heard of absess that big and that one month to one month and a half is need for the system to get out of it). This bad luck has erased all the benefits gained in Doha. He has been training in Athens in June where he has done PBs in the last 2 weeks at 120m 11.74 and 150m 14.87 (our official hand timer who is usuall 0.01 accurate fell asleep and gave us a 15.03 that day which i corrected from video) and a very good into-wind 7.91 at 80m.
As a rebound response after Doha s collossal effort, his weight lifting PBs, which seemed locked for weeks, suddenly exploded, and Olu came from 85kg to 100kg at bench press for 1 rep, with only 4 bench press workouts this month and minimal number of reps. As Charlie says, an other proof that Doha wasn t fake or fluke.

Yesterday Olu has came back to his normal mode for starts which had really suck for weeks, but was extremely tense in top speed and especially in the last 40m. The 10.08 in heats was very easy for him in spite of this tension, and in final he ran very bad, like he didnt how to use his new strength. His first 30m was about 3.82-3.85 and his 60m around 6.53 and finished baddly in 10.19. It s like we are starting a new season, with a much higher physical potential than before. The abysmal results in Hengelo Oslo and Lille made all Olu s confidence away, and all the work done to Silver at Commonwealth Games and African Record in Doha has been suspended. Olu is just starting to get use to his body again, and at the end of the meeting, he looked in a real good shape. He just needs some competitions to put all things together.

By early July, we have already experienced the best and worse and i would like to thank all the people who are supporting us in our ups and downs.

We had great weather and temp (40C) during 3 weeks and the day of the meet clouds rain and everything… It lead us all into the indoor track (70m mondo slight and unsteady bend) under the crowds which are is dangerous (Lalova broke her leg here last year).
What surprises me the most is Deji Aliu s come back, the African Champs (Trials for World Cup) will be very interesting this year. Francis is back to his highest level after knee and foot injuries (NO, Ato, Obikwelu is NOT done!). After his wind assisted 9.84 few weeks ago he told me that the stimuli was so high that he couldnt close the eyes during the night and had to call a doctor. I can see him getting around his European Record (9.86 set in Athens OG final) in the coming months.
On a funny note, i would like to mention the weird behaviour of Jason Smoots (that guy who can bench press over 200kg) who was trying to psych-out the opposition in looking at us dangerously with wide opened eyes and singing loudly.

Im surprised by the relatively poor results in sprints compared to the bunch of extraordinary times in distance running, just look at men s 800m. In 2005, the 8th man in World lists did 1:44.27, and yesterday in one single race the 8th placer did 1:44.33!

PJ, on behalf of all members I’m sure I can say “thanks” for another inciteful Postcard from Athens full of the sort of backgrounding information needed to understand just a few of the issues elite sprinters/coaches do battle with.

Sounds like Olu needs some confidence to hold his focus, to remain in a subjective state; confidence comes from performance, in racing or in training. He should have more faith in you and belief in himself, having run and lifted such great PBs in training. Great works take great belief but also a little time to add the finishing touches . . . go Olu, go PJ.

As for Smoots:o, he embarrasses himself with such unsportsmanlike behaviour. Poor guy

THX a lot PJ.
Smoots lookes like a monster anyhow. His arms look thicker than his legs???

agreed with kitkat, your backround info is invaluable.

when are you going to race next?

Agree with Epote and Kitkat  I look forward to all Fasuba’s races just so I can read the postcards . I’m a big fan now

Slightly unrelated but how did Lalova break her leg? just started to get into athletics, don’t know much about anything that happened beyond this year.

Same, the postcards provide an insight to a world most here will never encounter, thanks.

I guess this sums it up :stuck_out_tongue:

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to pierrejean again.[/i]

for those of us who didnt see the race, what did smoots do?

Lalova ran into someone else and broke the leg. It was a big shock for the witnesses as well. I can tell you that she will do one of the greatest comeback ever from such a bad accident, she took part to a test-competition in Bulgaria (results only for internal use) and her 100m time was really impressive to me.

Looking forward to it.

Sorry for my absence. My modem got fried i an electrical storm and the pricks at primus took a week to reply and get me a new modem. Great service- time for Cable!
Olu will be back at full speed soon and the doubters will all jump on board.
