Aleen Bailey's flying start

OLYMPIC GAMES relay gold medallist, Aleen Bailey, produced her fastest season opener at the weekend’s Arlington Invitational, held at the Maverick Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Saturday.

Bailey, a former NCAA Division One sprint double champion, won heat six of the 100m in 11.21 seconds, helped with a 3.2 metres per second wind.

Bailey ran against college athletes, so despite getting past the finish line first, she was not recognised as an official winner.

Again, for the second consecutive time, former Vere athlete Simone Facey, facing up against Bailey, did not finish.

Meanwhile, former national junior representative Keisha Brown, won the women’s 100m hurdles.

In a field which included Jamaica’s Pan American Junior high jump silver medallist and former Holmwood jumping star Shaunette Davidson, who won heat two in 14.70 for fifth overall, Barton County College’s Brown came out on top in the 100m hurdles 13.65.

Former Holmwood Technical student, TraceyAnn Rowe, now representing Barton County, was 11th in 14.91. She returned later to finish sixth in the 200m in 24.23. Jamaica-born Sanya Richards won the event in 22.89.
