a coach i respect quite a bit recently said that a diet that’s 40% protein, 30% carbohydrates, and 30% decent fat is good for almost all athletes. now this guy generally works with high level decathletes, but would that be good stuff for a 400/800 guy who runs cross country in the fall?
Just by guessing, I would imagine that this athlete would be running some moderate mileage? I would recommend increasing the intake of complex carbohydrates in that diet.
It looks like the zone breakdown except with the carbs and protein percentages switched. I agree that more carbs would probably be needed.
