He ran the 4x100m relay the next day, so they must have been telling the truth about t it being just a cramp.
yea but he looked bad on that 4x1. not like the normal kim
THis was after a race call back. only elain and prandini slowed down the other ladies ran the full 100.
elaine wouldve won either way, but prandidni would not have gotten second
is Asafa continuing on with his career next year or calling it after this season. He’s still running well to be in top 8 imo.
See his twitter: 97 done with 3 to go. The real question might be what happens when he gets to 100 sub 10’s. He will for sure be back next year.
just made 40k for winning the diamond race…why would anyone retire?
Maybe if you won 3 golds in each of three Olympics. Next year in London: Powell vs. Gatlin (if the ankle problem gets fixed) vs. de Grasse vs Bromell (if the achilles problem gets fixed). Bookie’s nightmare.
As exceptionally talented and classy as Asafa is and always has been it really is a shame that he doesn’t already have a few Golds (either by way of the World Championships or Olympics) from years past. In so many ways his form is a pristine model of technical excellence so it’s unfortunate that we are not able to attach individual Gold medal performances to his ability despite the fact that he’ll have the +100 sub 10sec record; which, just might outlast Bolt’s 100m record.
For the first time in a very long time, Powell struggled to dip under 10 this year. I hope he can get 3 more. How many more races does he have this year?
If we go back to just last year how did his Powell 9.81 differ from his personal best of 9.72(set 7years ago in 2008). It was only the frequency and top speed which seems down, looking at his 9.81 in Paris. Also he was doing that 9.81 in the same amount of steps(44), but off a seemingly weaker slower start and seemingly weaker mid race top speed(slightly slower frequency). I say asafa Powell will get 130s sub 10 before he retires.
I think really we don’t know about half the injuries these speed merchants carry, and how they limit them to speed training, top speed mechanics, accelerations, speed endurance, whatever. Some of these dudes could just push through the pain and not increase injury to area, or maybe they just shift the stress to other areas of body at there own desire. Remember back when Franno(Steven Francis)was saying if you have a cut you can’t feel the injury. There’s a lot of labourers/contractors in the blue collar world who are constantly banging there knees or being reckless and stabbing or cutting themselves. Maybe it’s the bodies design to be whipped and cut by branches in the bush lol.
Look at Gatlin, injured his ankle in november(was it), then I thought he said he had to let it heal for 3months. For his elite frame that’s along time. Most uninformed non elite novice sprinters(whatever) would prob just still train twice, thrice a week lol.
go kim go. gotta love it
well asafa is one of the highest paid sprinters. 6.5 mill is not too shabby
True and well deserved, however, net worth is a distant topic from the symbolic value of an individual gold.
You can have the gold. I’ll take the $6.5 mil.
