2016 races

33 is not very old anymore for many things even sprinting. Sprinting consistently at the speeds these superstars are running at does become more difficult to repeat and be consistent.

I agree with the point about the money making. Most of these guys have spent their life working hard to run fast and if they have handled themselves properly they could extend their careers in all sorts of areas to do with track.

It’s not a bad idea for any of these athletes to think ahead and try and monetize their hard work and long hours of training into a longer career.

I think what Charlie really wanted to see from all of his athletes was for them to make a better life for themselves as a result of their experiences in track.

He was not so worried about himself which is annoying to me in some ways has that had long term health implications in my view. Maybe not.

I really enjoy seeing the athletes that have been around longer run well because it’s harder to do that. It’s a different game entirely when a bunch of 20 year olds and 22 or 24 year olds are out there because they have not really been in the high dollar game too long. This is what makes people more interesting.

Running fast a few times is always going to be cool. Making one song that lives in the minds of people for their entire life is also cool. But watching athletes grow up and musicians stick around over the longer run is educational and inspiring.

The Olympics will be interesting to see what goes on there.

Is he not still being coached by his brother Donovan?

Yes, and they train in the USA in Texas these days. But he’s on the Jamaican team only on the 4X100, and I don’t believe he’s entered in London, didn’t run in Doha or Monaco or Birmingham, so it looks like his star has diminished a bit and he probably has to make money where he can. That might mean running a bunch of races that he doesn’t win (anymore).

I think you’ll find that 9.92 would have cut it just fine for every nation in the world except the one he was born in. BTW, Gatlin at 1 year older than Powell is trying to become the oldest person to win a Olympic medal in the 100. I tend to think that 9.92 could deliver a good living for another year or two, but when he is ready to hang it up, I hope he stays in the US and starts a Jamaican-style club. We could use more of that.

The comment earlier about him training with a new coach led me to ask that.

Yes, I believe he is. It is under Donavan Powell that he reduced the emphasis on acceleration in his training.

Harrison just broke the WR. Wow.

Conditions were absolutely perfect.
Nice warm evening bit stuffy (perfect for London lol) in general quite good competition.
I have been waiting for quite some time for this record to go, it has been improved with fenomenal execution. Love it.

Sad she wont be in the olympics. Hopefully that fat WR check will take her mind of it

Wow, that’s awesome. She crushed everyone in the race.

When you said “new coach” a few days ago that led to me questioning if he was still being coached by Donovan. I think he’s been training with his brother since summer or fall of 2014 after he was dropped by Stephen Francis.

I wonder what happened to Kim Collins as he pulled up after about 60m ???

It looked like he may have re-aggrevated the injury he suffered about a month ago. Doesn’t look good for his Olympic ambitions.

Edit: They are now stating it was only cramps: http://www.sportsmax.tv/?q=articles/2016/07/22/collins-suffers-cramps-london-still-intent-running-relays

everytime he has pulled up in a race, they say its a cramp…something need to channge

It’s been 6 weeks since that “cramp” on June 9, and I’ve never had a cramp that took that long to heal. If he has an ongoing problem with hydration, they need to fix that. The truth probably is that he had something like a grade I hamstring strain and they didn’t want to admit it, he needs more time, but it’s the Olympics, so they went for it.
