Barcelona to host 2010 European Championships

Barcelona, Spain will host the 2010 European Athletics Championships, the European Athletics Association announced at its Council Meeting today in Gothenburg, Sweden.
The city’s Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium, venue of the 1992 Olympic Games, will host the championships, and will be modernised for the event, with a capacity of 45,000. The competition will be scheduled for either the end of July or beginning of August.
The EAA also announced that the 2009 European Athletics Indoor Championships will be held in Turin, Italy, at the Palasport Olimpico Isozaki, which was built to host ice hockey during the recent Winter Olympic Games.
Also announced was the selection of Munich, Germany, as the host for the 2007 SPAR European Cup.
