Sudha Singh eclipsed the national record in the 3000m Steeplechase as she clocked 10:18.76 on Thursday (25 Oct). It was her third major domestic title this year after victories in the National Games (Guwahati) and Federation Cup (Kolkata).
Sahana Kumari bettered the meet record in high jump (1.82m) while her railway team-mate Preeja Sreedharan completed a distace doube with a win over 5000m (15:45.96).
Asian 1500m champion Sinimol Paulose, a product of Tata middle distance academy which is based at this venue, equaled her personal best in the 800m (2:02.02) for another double victory.
17-year-old Manpreet Kaur claimed her second major title of the year by winning the Shot Put. However, her best put of the day - 13.62m - was well below her PB of 14.42 achieved in FedCup at Kolkata last May.
Sivadasan Nair Arunjith ran a superb race in men’s 200m. He clocked a career best 20.92 secs, a new championship record.
In yet another fine show of middle distance running in this country, the 800m saw all the podium finishers registering their bests with Sajeesh Joseph (1:47.42) winning the race from compatriot Ramesan Rajeev (1:47.54) at the post.
Arun D’Souza, the steeplechase specialist with so many feathers in his cap, got beaten by training-partner Om Prakash. Both the men returned with their best timings here.
The final day of the meet also saw another upset when Asian champion Renjith Maheswary lost to his colleague Amarjeet Singh in the Triple Jump. Singh won the event in 16.53m. Maheswary, who improved the 36-year-old national record with a 17.04m win in the Asian Grand Prix at Guwahati and a wind-aided 17.19 to win the Asian title at Amman, could manage only a paltry 16.14m for silver on Friday.
