Ok in the following video you will see me in my first month of training, i believe this is my first sprint with spikes… this was last years summer when i first started… i was doing RDL sets with 400lbs, full squats with close to 400lbs GMs with 200, deadlifting over 500 and had HUGE butt and hamstrings… i was also 235lbs, but my PC chain was all BIG and pretty strong too.
There are certainly more people on this forum that can give better advice that me, but in this video it seems that you are restricting your stride and trying to turnover to quick. With your power and strength you should be getting full extension and covering major ground.
I feel your frustration. I am a very similar athlete to you. I can jump well but am only an average sprinter. (37" vert, 10’5" slj compared to 7.2 60 m & 11.4 100 m) My strength is not at your level however. I squat about 360 at 185 BW. I too am about 6-2. I am trying to crack the same code. Trying to get my explosiveness to transfer to linear speed. I posted a video the other day of myself running a 50 meter. Look for it and tell me what you think.
Did you play basketball before you started sprinting. I played tons of basketball including 3 years of college ball before I started sprint training. This might be our problem. Maybe basketball created our anterior dominant athleticism, I think its just of matter of sprinting more and more and teaching the body to use its strength and power differently.
Thanks man, that video is probably one of my first times ever in a stadium so i dont know if anyone can judge technique on it… but anyhow i had a pretty strong PC chain over there, and a butt that is sticking out and bit hamstring curve… and if it still looks bad then PC chain strength isnt the problem.
but yes, i come from basketball… pretty high level, still cruise with the AND1 mixtape of israel sometimes.
Remember though, just cause your lifts are high doesn’t mean once you sprint you are using that strength effectively and doesn’t mean all your muscles are firing correctly. Just an example, Dave Tate over at elitefts squatted over 900 pounds with glutes that didn’t fire AT ALL. I realize he isn’t a sprinter, but just shows that even though he had a great squat, powerlifting style which hits p chain more, his glutes still weren’t working properly. So like I said, just cause you have good p chain lifts, doesn’t mean everything is firing on all cylinders for you.
Thats ok I love dave tate.
Hey so basicalyl what ur saying is that when i first started i had the strength but little sprint time and now i have lots of sprint practice but less strength
Now I should just combine the 2 ?
Check out the post above, help me out with the program if u can…
I have about 2 months before the season fully kicks in, so do you guys think i can retrieve all my weight PR’s in that time and then taper for 10 days and cruise through the outdoor season?
I’ll say it fine. I Can’t back down at this point. Its me against the fake hype. I don’t back down to anyone. Ever. Even though it wasn’t directed at me, I’ll respond. The Guys turn…the guy is certainly not afraid to voice his opinion, as you all know.
The problem is when your write books like 'No Bull to Putting on Muscle" or have frank yang as a poster child on your website (yes it’s true), you probably can’t apply any of the info into REAL WORLD situations. Thats the problem with this site. There is almost nothing original posted here on a daily basis. Coming from people who can’t break 11. No, that doesn’t mean you don’t know what your talking about, but its funny though how the best posters on here seem to be the people who can at least achieve this threshold. Charlie included. When is someone gonna post some information we can actually use, or have some original ideas, instead of googling, or copying info word for word, or quoting some expert. The ideas that are bounced around on this site sound so nice and pretty, but can you actually use them and see results though? That was my problem with Clemson. Ya it sounds good, but put the stuff into practice and you get zero results. Just look at how good Weston high is doing for track.
Silencer you can listen to this nonsense or you can adjust your program and try and experiment with different block settings.
To me if you can run 1.8E the problem is definitely with your reaction. Your probably reacting too late which could be over .20. It doesn’t matter how fast your run in the 10 meters, your already starting with a huge deficit.
Do you want to listen to someone who has a very fast start. Or someone that gets info from books. Seriously. Lets think about this.
The people critizing your starts would definitetly not be able to beat you anyways. Los could, but thats ok, he is one of the few legitimate people here. I would listen to him if your gonna listen to anyone else in this thread.
Not sorry if I offended anyone.
Yours truly, The Guy
Wow nice to meet you too. FWIW, Silencer ASKED ME to come over here and comment on his videos which is why I did.
Not quite, yes you “combine” the two but for you where your lifts are your sprint performance doesn’t add up. So MAINTAIN your strength while working on your weakness, sprinting and your ability to use that strength in this instance.
Remember, impressive lifting doesn’t = decreased sprint times. Decreased sprint times = decreased sprint times. To take it further for our situation, strong posterior chain in the weight room doesn’t = efficient posterior chain on the track, you see where I’m going?
On another note Silencer, for what it’s worth (if anything) I have the highest regard for Kelly’s work and his advice. His articles and books have helped me TREMENDOUSLY. So I would pay great attention to his advice. I’m not saying that you aren’t, just a recommendation.
I am not looking to get into any arguments here. And this is not addressed to anyone.
But listen to me all please. I have worked with some of the most talented athletes and coaches this country has to offer.
A few things that get on my nerves…
If something is wrong then you need to add x exercises, x weights, x sets, or x reps to run fast or make an improvement. More often then not it is not the answer.
You need mega loads of volume to run fast. All these athletes think they can do Ben Johnson type loads without Ben Johnson type recovery like 3x massage per day, sauna, epsom salt baths, contrast, ems ect. No you don’t have to do huge volumes. I have seen athletes who do miniscule amounts of volume who have run 4.2 or sub 10.2. A lot of them. Why, because they are always fully recovered when they sprint
You need to speed train 3x per week to run fast. No you don’t. Even Charlie shows an alternate cycle where it is only 2 per week.
A strong core makes you a fast sprinter. Next time your at the gym get the guy with the strongest core and race him. See who wins. Strong core doesnt make you run a 9.9.
Squatting and lifting huge weights makes you fast. Not really. Go get the strongest person at the gym and race him. Or go by the body weights of the top sprinters. They are not really that strong compared to there body weight. Anyone that has run at the college level or high school level has seen guys who don’t even lift run fast.
